On NOW!!! DECLARED SURPLUS: The Future of the Nova Scotia Lighthouse NEW WORK BY STEVEN RHUDE at Argyle Fine Art

Steven Rhude talks about his show, Declared Surplus in his own words:

" Lighthouses were once regarded as an archetypal public good, because ships could benefit from their light without being forced to pay. Some of Nova Scotia’s lighthouses are located on islands; haunting our imagination in the sense that they exist outside of our normal conception of what time and space really are. Solarized now, most lighthouses are just dwellings, hollowed out and undisturbed like a sleeping artifact. However, in my mind’s eye they exuded an unremembered life - an indefinable presence - the kind of presence that cannot be measured in dollars and cents, and never be declared surplus."

Show continues until October 12th
